Well here we are, it's no longer an idea it has manifested! I'm always blown away how these things actually come together and we find ourselves standing in Caracas, Venezuela shooting 4REAL! Once again Hip Hop is guiding us. We connected with a local MC named Shaman from the group El23, they will be rapping along side K'naan and Dead Prez on Wed night when the Hip Hop events kick off.
We also met these dope brothers named Ernesto and Piki from an organization called "Tuina el Fuerte." They are working directly with the Chavez government to establish a space where young people can get together in an environment that allows them to nurture their creativity and create multiple avenues for change and empowerment. Of course the lifeblood of their project is Hip Hop culture. Another man we met was DJ Hernia, who has an amazing story to tell that relates to his work, his family and the Chavez government. He has invited us to his home next week to hear more about what has been happening with him over the last few years.
What more can I say? We are in a new land, new sights, new sounds and new feelings. I realized a while ago that I am traveling junkie, I truly get off on new experiences and the thrill of the unknown. If I have never been there, I am always down to roll. The greatest part of the trip is the experience and the series of unplanned events and circumstances that become the heart of the journey. This is an aspect of 4REAL that is truly close to Josh and I, we can't wait to share it. This is the root of inspiration... the solidarity and camaraderie of youth equipped with culture and music as their weapons. This trip to Venezuela is buzzing with that energy... lets watch it unfold!
